More completed Jigsaw Animals

Sandra has just finished her cheetah where she has printed some spots and then attached Dorset button on top to look like spots.

Sandra said she had fun making it.

When Gillian had finished stitching her floral toucan she decided she would turn him into the decoration for a fragrant pillow. By  adding  sequins and  blanket stitch she integrated him to the pillow and made them as one. The result is a very attractive and useful pillow to drain away the stress of too much stitching!

I love the toucan's long beak and expect to hear him squawk any minute!

Alison has created some  colour co-ordinated magpies and a duck with colours that just zing! She has enhanced the birds with carefully placed orange stitching emphasising their shape.

They are fantastic and they enhance your workroom.

Joan has finished her hedgehog and her clever stitching makes you believe you can feel its prickles.

 Tyger, tyger, burning bright

In the forests of the night.

What a wonderful tiger from Susan. His colours and wonderful face made me think immediately of William Blake's poem The Tyger.

You have definitely framed his fearful symmetry.

Completed Jigsaw Animals

Julia has been very busy and completed four jigsaw animals! Each animal has its own character and she has chosen the fabric and stitches carefully to produce these stunning animals.

Thank you Julia, they are beautiful.

Wendy B. has embellished her parrot with a variety of hand stitches producing a most wonderful bird.

Perched on a hand stitched branch, with his wing outstretched, he looks as if he is pointing the way!

Sandra has just completed her chameleon sitting on a branch hunting for insects. She has used a wide range of colours and stitches as they are known to change their colours and they have a textured skin.

Sandra said it was great fun varying the bright colours and the stitches to produce the texture.

 Shelagh has completed her wonderful snake by embroidering over the material pieces which integrates the whole embroidery. She wishes to thank Wendy for her advice on what contrasting colours to use.

In the above close up you can see the stitching and the eyes and tongue which finish the snake.

Jigsaw Animals- Fran Walker January Meeting 2023

This month our workshop was led by one of our own members Fran Walker and she  had obtained permission from the Author of Animal Parade by Clare Young, to use her illustrations as inspiration for our animal embroideries.

Fran had made two wonderful animals, based on the illustrations in the above book, by making them up as material jig-saws and then embroidering over the top.

Members chose what animal they wished to make and then traced the picture breaking it down into pieces which were numbered so we didn't get in a muddle!

Fabrics were chosen and bondaweb applied to the pieces so they could be attached by ironing.

Slowly wonderful animals began to appear in the most beautiful colours.

Most of our members were able to do some stitching to enhance their animal before they went home and it was now very easy to work out what animals they were.

It was a very enjoyable day and members took home their animal to embellish at home and hopefully to show everyone when finished!

A big thank you goes to Fran for thinking of the idea and sharing it with us so we had a very enjoyable workshop.
