Christmas Meeting -Quiz, competition, Origami Stars - Shelagh Swire. Secret Santa, Jacobs Join December 5th 2022

Our members arrived laden down with food for the Jacobs Join, present for Secret Santa, entry for the competition and folded strips of material for the stars. They were all prepared for a good fun day.

The entries for the competition were numbered and hung on a wooden tree. Members had taken lots of care and they all looked beautiful, and gave the room a festive air. Thank you to everyone for taking part,

We started off the day with a Christmas Quiz based on stitches and types of embroidery. The members were in 5 groups with a scribe. The clues to the stitches were read out and the names recorded with a little help if needed. There were also 3 picture rounds. There was lots of giggling over answers and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

We then had a break for tea/coffee while we voted for our favourite bauble. They were all so good that it was an almost impossible task but Shelagh won the bell again,

This year our little making session was origami stars led by Shelagh Swire. Because of the complexity, she set up the order of folding and weaving for us to follow and  supported us when we needed help!

We had already done the folding and the ironing of the strips at home so we could concentrate on the weaving and folding. The range of colours was mouth watering as members started folding and weaving their strips.

Once the central squares were in place there was more folding, snipping off excess and pushing the ends into the folds with tweezers. Many of us had found another use for our eyebrow tweezers!!!!

Slowly points began to appear and although the folding was tricky with Shelagh's support stars began to appear.

Well done to all our members for persisting with their stars and producing such wonderful tree decorations.

A big thank you to Shelagh for supporting us through the folding and weaving and I hope you were well pleased with what we had produced.

Secret Santa was next and thanks to everyone for the beautifully wrapped presents. Every member went home with a token Christmas present.

Next the important bit - the food! All the kind offerings of delicious food, much of it hand made, was set out on the table producing a wonderful feast.

Members set up their tables to share the food and  started serving themselves buffet style. The food was much enjoyed and there were also second helpings! Everyone wished each other a Merry Christmas.

Members had a good fun day and a big thank you goes to all members for their contributions to make it a successful day.

Happy Christmas to you all!
