Finished Weavings

Thelma has made a lovely textured weaving which you want to touch. I love the contrast in texture and colour between the orange and the black.

Thank you Thelma for a beautifully textured piece.

Fran has completed her stripy weaving with "holed limpets" attached to the bottom which balance the curved twig supporting the weaving.

The fringe with the limpets make an unusual and attractive edging.
Thank you Fran.

Christina has just finished her woven landscape. By using "earthy colours" in stripes Christina has managed to produce a varied landscape including grass, fields, rivers and mountains.

Thank you Christina, it is a delightful piece.

Shelagh has finished two lovely weavings. The first one is a pot of flowers which she has managed to weave in the centre of the blue background - a tricky thing to do. She has fringed the edging.
The second weaving is a  pretty hanging with lots of texture worked in stripes and hung on a stick,
Thank you Shelagh, you have produced two interesting weavings with texture and a motif. Very well done for your first efforts.

Sandra says "Do not go into the water!"

I love the colours of the sea. Thanks Sandra

Alison joined us with the weaving from home and has made a beautifully coloured hanging with lots of texture and a delightful fringe.

The texture has been built by using different types of wool and material in patches so that you feel you must touch the surface.
Thank you Alison, it is beautiful.

Wendy B. has finished a second tapestry weaving. She has made a very handsome ginger cat with a white tip on the end of his tail.

He is super and put a big smile on my face. Thank you Wendy for sharing him with us.

Wendy B. has just finished her weaving of a beautiful vase of flowers. She has embellished some of the flowers over the weaving and added a very pretty knotted fringe.

Well Done Wendy! It is a joy to look at.

Weaving - Denise Gates March Meeting 2023

Our workshop this month was led by Denise Gates one of our own members. Denise often brings her weaving to our meetings and that had led to enquiries from members as to "how do you do that?"

She agreed to lead a workshop on weaving.

She arrived with bags full of card looms, weavings, and  wool. She talked about weaving in general and showed us pictures of well-known pieces before talking about her pieces and her inspirations.

She set up a display of her beautiful pieces which are very subtle in colour and finely woven, plus a few pieces from another member for everyone to look at, and see the range possible.

Then down to the weaving and we were handed cardboard looms and warp thread to get the loom ready for weaving. We had been sent instructions for warping the loom in advance. A few members brought their own small table looms.

Loom warped up ready for weaving. See Below

It was then up to us what colours we  would weave but Denise made a suggestion that it is sometimes a good idea to wrap chosen wools around a card to see how they go together. See Below

The room was very silent as members concentrated on "over, under, over, under."

Gradually small amounts of weaving began to appear and then grow steadily.

Weaving is much slower than embroidery but a couple of our members managed to finish their loom so well done to them.

It was a very enjoyable day and I think lots of our members will be looking for looms in the back of cupboards or looking to buy one as Denise inspired us with her beautiful weavings and once members had a go they were hooked!

A big thank you to Denise for inspiring us and leading a good fun day.
