Christmas Meeting December 2021

Our Christmas Meeting began with a quiz, answers relating to sewing/weaving, world  and historical clothing. Great fun was had and there was lots of laughter as the two groups tried to remember answers from the back of their minds.

During the coffee break members voted on the Suffolk Puff Christmas trees started at the November Meeting under the guidance of Janet. The beautiful range of trees can be seen below and thank you to members for bringing them to the meeting helping to make a festive atmosphere.

The winner was the beautiful blue tree made by Shelagh. Well done Shelagh!

After the break members were shown how to make a simple pine cone Christmas tree decoration.

Sandra brought some samples with her [see below]and demonstrated making a decoration but members were full of their own ideas and some managed to make more than one!

Members started by gluing a loop to their cone and then all sorts of bits and pieces were added to their decoration.

When finished members displayed their cones all together to admire the wide range of decorations. They looked wonderful! Well done everybody!

We  then all tucked into our Jacob's Join which was delicious and much enjoyed.

The Secret Santa was  drawn and members took home their present after wishing everyone a Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the meeting a success and Happy Christmas to you all.

Make your own Christmas Wrapping Paper

While the rain and wind lashed around Mary's daughter's house she decided to put the  time to good use. Using a bargain 6m roll of brown paper which she was able to spread out on the long kitchen table. She set about printing a pattern of Christmas trees to make her own Christmas wrapping paper using a bought stamp.

Thank you Mary. Not only is it pretty but it is better for the environment. A wonderful idea!

Suffolk Puff Christmas Trees - Janet Tabarandak November Meeting 2021

Janet showed us a whole variety and sizes of Suffolk Puff Christmas trees that sparkled and twinkled in Christmas colours. They had all been made  using Suffolk Puffs in decreasing sizes and by the time Janet had finished she had a whole forest.

Members started by cutting out circles in decreasing sizes and then ironing a supporting circle of half the diameter to the circle.

The inner circle was to give the puff more body. The circles were then gathered around the edge and pulled tight to make the puffs.

When all the puffs had been gathered they were placed on top of each other in decreasing sizes and then with a long needle stitched through the centre. Some members decided to decorate their trees before joining them.

Most members had got to this stage and then took them away to decorate at home and attach a pot.
They will be brought back to the December meeting as entries to the Christmas competition and I am sure they will all brighten up a dark December day.
A big thank you to Janet for introducing us to the Suffolk Puff Christmas trees and guiding us carefully through the making of them,

Positivity Wall hanging

A big thank you to all the members who contributed to the Positivity hanging. The cord was attached today and it was hung from the base of a column.

It looks bright and cheerful and of course it is very positive about stitching!

Name Badges

Most of our members were wearing their new name badges today. There was quite a variety, from names with flowers, hobbies, favourite spots and plays upon names to traditional stitches on aida but the one thing in common was that they were bright and cheerful and welcoming to any new members.
