Lynn , one of our own members, arrived with paper, fine black pens, cotton material and a pile of books with ideas that we could use as starting points for our tangles.
Most people doodle if they have a pen in their hands but Lynn had taken it one step further by using the tangles as a basis for stitch.
She brought a beautiful sample based on the swirls on an old tree trunk using gold thread..
The second piece Lynn had sampled embroidered lines and the width the number of threads produced. We started off by playing with tangles drawn with pen on paper inside various shapes. Lovely graphic patterns began to emerge.
After playing with our pens Lynn showed us how to convert our doodles to stitch using a dark colour to get a good contrast with the white background and a graphic quality. She suggested using line stitches e.g., back, split, stem, stitch. A pop of colour could be added if we wanted.
Working our patterns was very calming so there were periods of quiet followed by chatter and catching up on news.
Members took home their "Lynntangles" to finish at home and we will all be pleased to see what they look like when finished.
